Former Belgian cyclist Johan Museeuw believes that Sky domestique Wout Poels would have more to offer as a team leader.

The Dutch rider has been one of Chris Froome's principal helpers in the last few editions of the Tour de France, setting a high pace in the mountains to demotivate Froome's rival and reduce their energy levels.

Talking to Sporza, the three-times winner of both the Tour of Flanders and Paris-Roubaix said that Poels has what it takes to compete for the general classification himself.

"The winner of Liege-Bastogne-Liege who rides in front and pulls until the end. If you have those capacities, you could compete for the top five in the Tour," Museeuw said.

Poels is currently in 37th place in the overall classification, at more than an hour from his team leader Froome.
