Tour de France: Ten-second penalty for Adam Yates

White Jersey wearer Adam Yates has been handed a 10-second penalty for a hand-sling during stage 19 of the Tour de France on Friday.

The Orica-BikeExchange rider was helped up a climb by his teammate Ruben Plaza who received the same penalty.

Yates started the day in third place but dropped to fourth after losing time on the final climb, up the 1st-category Saint-Gervais Mont Blanc. Yates finished in 13th position at 56 seconds from stage winner Romain Bardet and 30 seconds behind Nairo Quintana. Both the Frenchman and the Colombian surpassed the leader of the Young Rider Classification in the overall standings.

The Briton did, in turn, surpass Bauke Mollema, who experienced a collapse on the final climb and finished minutes later.

Following the penalty, Yates is 19 seconds behind third-placed Quintana with only Saturday's mountain stage and Sunday's stage to Paris left to go.
