Wallonie: Trentin wins stage 4, Meersman keeps Yellow

Matteo Trentin has won the fourth stage in the Tour de Wallonie while his Etixx-QuickStep teammate Gianni Meersman came in third and keeps the Yellow Jersey.

Several escapes were attempted in the 177km stage from Aubel to Herstal, close to the city of Liege in the north-east of Belgium.

The last two riders to spend significant time ahead of the peloton were Julien Duval of Armee de Terre and Stijn Steels of Topsport Vlaanderen - Baloise. The duo were caught well on time for the reduced peloton to prepare for a final sprint however.

A very late attack by one of the riders in the bunch had little effect as Etixx-QuickStep controlled the pace for its race leader Meersman. In the final sprint, Trentin surprisingly finished first with AG2R La Mondiale's Gediminas Bagdonas and Meersman completing the top three.

Meersman remains in the lead in the overall classification with a six-second advantage over Dimitri Claeys.
