After having been part of Team Sky for two years, Irish national champion Nicolas Roche looks set for a move to American outfit BMC Racing Team for the 2017 season.

Roche enjoyed success at Team Sky, winning stage 18 of the 2015 Vuelta a España as well as being an integral domestique for Chris Froome in both the Tour de France and Vuelta in 2015.

This year, Roche supported Mikel Landa in an attempt to claim overall victory in the Giro d'Italia. After Landa abandoned the race due to illness, Roche then helped Mikel Nieve take the overall mountains jersey and a stage in the race.

Racing against his cousin, Daniel Martin (EQS), the son of Stephen Roche won both the men's road race title and individual time trial races at the 2016 Irish national championships.

The 32 year-old will join Richie Porte at BMC to bolster the Tasmanian's hopes of winning the Tour de France in 2017. Porte and Roche rode together at Team Sky and look set to once again become teammates. An official announcement will made in the coming weeks, as UCI rules state that riders and teams are only allowed to announce new contracts from August 1 in the transfer season.
