French team AG2R La Mondiale has announced the signings of Belgians Oliver Naesen and Stijn Vandenbergh for the 2017 and 2018 seasons.

Team manager Vincent Lavenue spoke about the latest additions to his team's roster for next year.

"Oliver is a rider full of promise who has a good reputation in the peloton," Lavenu said. "This year, he proved he was able to excel in the Cobbled Classics, especially during Paris-Roubaix.

"Stijn is an authentic rouleur with great physical abilities. He is able to work hard for the team but also to play his card. Moreover, his knowledge of the Classics is really valuable. He is made for the cobbled races."

25-year-old Naesen sees chances for potential Classic victories at his new team. "I appreciate the team’s plan for the Classics and I am glad to begin a new story. I have just completed my first Tour de France and I think I have passed a new milestone. In the future, my dream would be to win Paris-Roubaix."

The much more experience Vandenberg (32) actually returns to the French outfit after an absence of eight seasons.

"I already spent one year in the AG2R La Mondiale roster in 2008 during my second professional season," he said. "Therefore, I am not taking a leap in the unknown and I would like to thank Vincent Lavenu for his confidence. They are building a competitive team for the Classics and I am glad to be a part of it. To me, I have some chances of success because I know very well those atypical races."
