Laurens ten Dam and Roy Curvers extend with Giant-Alpecin

Team Giant-Alpecin has confirmed the contract extensions of Laurens ten Dam and Roy Curvers, two of the most experienced cyclists in the current peloton.

Ten Dam, 35, is set to add another season to his long career and wants to retire after reaching the Champs Elysees in next year's Tour de France.

"During the Tour I realized I wanted to continue racing," he said. "I felt the youngsters could still benefit from my legs and my experience. I am really motivated to work with my teammates and staff for another challenging season. The signing of Wilco [Kelderman] has also given me motivation to continue and we have got a stellar GC team next year and I hope to play a big role in it!"

Having made his professional debut in 2002, Ten Dam spent most of his best years at Rabobank/LottoNL-Jumbo before making the move to Giant-Alpecin at the start of 2016.

The rider's best Grand Tour performance was in 2012 when 'Lau' finished in eighth place in the Vuelta a España. A ninth-place finish in the Tour de France followed in 2014.

Curvers has spent his entire professional career at Giant-Alpecin and its predecessors, having joined Skil-Shimano in 2008. The rider has formed part of the team's Tour de France formation since 2012.

"I'm very happy to have been with the team for a decade and I'm satisfied with my contract extension," the 36-year-old stated. "The team has always shown confidence in me and still does, which is confirmed with this new contract.

"We are in a phase of development within the team in terms of both top riders and talents coming through over the next few years, and I am looking forward to contributing to their development and creating some great results with them."
