YUKIYA ARASHIRO

Japan's Yukiya Arashiro is moving to new team Bahrain-Merida. The rider, who is currently at Lampre-Merida, is the 11th rider to be announced for the new formation.

Arashiro became a professional in 2006 after winning the U-23 National Time Trial and Road Race of Japan the previous year. He also took the victory at the elite Road Race Championships of his country in 2007 and 2013.

The Okinawa-born has won the Combativity award in the Tour de France twice, after the fourth stage in 2012 and the sixth of the 2016 edition. After winning the Tour of Limousin in 2012 he became the first Japanese rider to win a Hors Category race and he is the first of his country to have ridden all three Grand Tours.

"The signing of Yukiya brings us all great joy at Bahrain-Merida, firstly because the class of a rider that Yukiya is, he has shown in the past his very determined way of racing and also with his incredible results he has achieved," said General Manager Brent Copeland.

"Only this year for example what amazed me with Yukiya was his come back from a broken femur when he crashed during the beginning of the season, within a very short time he was back to training and within only a few months he was back racing, this was a great example of a true professional and a determined athlete."
