Contador, Cavendish and Wiggins to start in Abu Dhabi

The second edition of the Abu Dhabi Tour will take place from the 20th to the 23rd of October and features the participation of big names like Alberto Contador, Greg Van Avermaet and Mark Cavendish.

The tour will host eleven UCI World Tour Teams, four UCI Professional Continental Teams and three UCI Continental teams. This year the event will be classified as UCI 2.1 but from 2017 it will be part of the WorldTour Calendar, a reason why many WorldTour Teams will be there as they want to familiarize themselves with the race.

"I really look forward for the upcoming Abu Dhabi Tour. As Official Ambassador, of course, but also as a rider: this year my shoulders are fine and I definitively want to race and try to get a stage win and possibly wear a jersey. See you in one month!" said Mark Cavendish.

Nibali is also pleased to return to this race. "I am very happy to come back to Abu Dhabi after last year’s experience. I well remember the spectacle of the desert and the emotion of the final stage, with the Yas Marina F1 circuit looking spectacular under the lights. The first Abu Dhabi Tour was a memorable race with a perfect route and a very challenging mountain stage."

The World Teams that will be in Abu Dhabi are: Astana, BMC, Lampre-Merida, Lotto Soudal, Movistar, Orica-BikeExchange, Dimension Data, Giant-Alpecin, Sky, Tinkoff and Trek-Segafredo. Team Wiggins will also be there and its leader Bradley Wiggins will go out of retirement to take part in the competition.
