Peter Sagan has won stage 4 in the Eneco Tour, his second win in a row, and takes the lead in the general classification of the WorldTour race.
The fourth stage, which contained more hills and cobbles than the previous stages in the Dutch-Belgian race, saw two Astana riders (Andriy Grivko and Dmitriy Gruzdev) ahead of the peloton in the last 20 kilometers.
Time trial specialists Tony Martin and Tom Dumoulin then attacked from the pack in an attempt to close the gap with the two leaders but their effort failed to pay off and the two were soon caught. As that happened, Jasper Stuyven took advantage of the situation and the Trek-Segafredo rider did succeed in bridging the gap with the leaders.
With a few kilometers to go, Stuyven launched a final attack as the peloton continued to reduce the gap, but the Belgian couldn't stay ahead much longer either and was caught well before the sprint.
In the finale, Sagan and Arnaud Demare of FDJ touched elbows but neither was considered to have done anything wrong, according to the jury. Following the exchange, Sagan continued to gain spots and eventually crossed the line just ahead of Andre Greipel of Lotto-Soudal. Alexander Kristoff of Katusha finished third.
In the General Classification, Sagan takes the lead at the expense of Rohan Dennis who had been in first place since Tuesday's Time Trial.
