Alejandro Valverde about riding all three Grand Tours: Never again!

After riding all three Grand Tours in the same season, Spanish cyclist Alejandro Valverde is determined to never repeat that feat again.

Talking to Spanish news agency EFE, Valverde spoke about his 2016 season. "The balance is good," he said. "I rode the three Grand Tours, I won seven races including the Fleche Wallonne, I finished third in the Giro d'Italia and won a stage. In the Tour de France I tried to help Nairo (Quintana) and managed to finish sixth. In the Vuelta, being my third three-week challenge, I also stood by Nairo's side until the end.

"I had the best sensations in the Tour. In the Giro I finished third but my level was higher in July."

The veteran was clear when asked about the chance of riding all three Grand Tours in the same season again. "No! This is a very simple reply. It is too much. I wanted to try this year, not to win but to gain experience, but you can't do well in all three. I've gone through this now and I don't think I'll ever repeat it."

Talking about his future, Valverde plans to remain at his current team for at least another season. "Next year I will stay at Movistar Team. We haven't signed anything yet but we're about to. I don't have any objectives yet for 2017, apart from staying healthy."
