Mark Cavendish wins and leads in Abu Dhabi Tour

Mark Cavendish has won the second stage of the Abu Dhabi Tour. By doing so, the Briton also takes the lead in the overall classification.

Belgian Jens Keukelaere of Orica-BikeExchange and One Pro Cycling's Dion Smith once again formed part of a lead group, after already having done so in Thursday's opening stage. The two were accompanied by Jan Polanc of Lampre-Merida, Samuel Williams of One Pro Cycling and Eugert Zhupa of Willier-Southeast.

The breakaway looked like it would make it until the finish but the peloton focused just on time and caught the adventurers at a mere 500 meters from the line.

In the final sprint, which came after just 115 kilometers of racing, Mark Cavendish handed Dimension Data the win by crossing the line ahead of Italians Elia Viviani, Andrea Guardini and Jakub Mareczko.

In the General Classification, Cavendish moves into first place with a four-second lead over stage 1 winner Giacomo Nizzolo. Keukeleire is third at five seconds from the leader.
