Movistar rider Ruben Fernandez has suffered an accident while training in the region of Murcia in Spain.

"A strong wind dragged him into a ditch and he fell with his face on the floor. He was attended first on the site of the accident by drivers and later by an ambulance," said Movistar team in a press release.

"Ruben was conscious all the time, then he was taken to the Hospital General Universitario Morales Meseguer of Murcia for the first tests. There it was confirmed that he suffered a fracture of the jaw and the loss of several teeth."

The rider was then taken to the Hospital Virgen de la Arrixaca of the city of Murcia, where he will undergo surgery to repair the fracture and some more deep tests to check the magnitude of the injuries.

Some teammates of Fernandez have already shown his support on Twitter. Jose Joaquin Rojas wrote: "My thoughts to @rubenfa. Very soon we will be battling again and cheering for many victories."

Alejandro Valverde also dedicated a tweet. "I hope to see you training again as soon as possible. My thoughts to @rubenfa. I hope it is nothing serious."

Fernandez has recently announced that he will remain in the Spanish formation for at least three more seasons.
