Danish cyclist Jacob Fuglsang will lead Astana at the 2017 Tour de France as the team looks to dominate in all three Grand Tours.
Talking to Danish newspaper Ekstra Bladet, Fuglsang explained that he was expecting to be given this chance at some point. "I have for some time been promised that I would be the only captain in the Tour."
The Scandinavian may bring along compatriot Jesper Hansen as he tries to take Astana to the top of the classification in the French race. "I hope I will have a strong team available next year. There is talk that the team should preferably by Kazakh, but I hope to get Jesper," he said.
Sport Director Dmitri Fofonov confirmed the plans, adding that Hansen may indeed by an option. "We will try to dominate the three Grand Tours and I can see Jesper Hansen in the Tour de France to help Jakob. Why not?
"There is a long way to go, but if he lives up to our expectations he could easily come into play," he said.
Fuglsang, 31, will take part in his seventh Tour de France. His best overall result so far was a seventh place in 2013.
