British rider Alex Dowsett will be attempting to break the UCI Hour Record for the second time and he's focusing on a different kind of preparation. The Movistar cyclist has stated that he will be doing more training for the road and less for the track ahead of this event, as is reported by Cycling Weekly.

The second hour record attempt for Dowsett will likely take place in Manchester at the end of January and he already knows which things have to be different from last time. "There's a long list of things that we will do, not necessarily differently but better.

"There's no one big thing, but I will do less track training than I did for the last one because I did some testing and I was quick straight off the back of a year of doing no track cycling. I'll be doing more strength-based training on the road," said the rider.

Dowsett will be using an Endura skinsuit and a Canyon bike, which are faster than the equipment he used back in 2015. He chose Manchester instead of London, because he thinks that track is faster too.

"When I was doing my testing it worked out that I was doing 10 watts per lap more in Manchester than I was doing in London. I feel that when you are on the banking, the wattages are a lot lower than when you are on the straight sections, and those differences are bigger in London than they are in Manchester. Manchester is a much more even track, so it is nicer and faster."

The Briton will be attempting to break the hour record that was set by his fellow countryman Bradley Wiggins just months after he set his own, and he believes it will be difficult.

"The record that Bradley set was really good, especially considering he had terrible air pressure. I am quite happy he had the air pressure he had otherwise it would make my life even more difficult to attempt to beat him!" Dowsett jokingly added.
