THIBAUT PINOT

French rider Thibaut Pinot of FDJ is set to ride Giro d'Italia for the first time in his career. He is then expected to take part in the Tour de France as well.

French sports paper l'Equipe reported on Sunday that the 26-year-old will make his first appearance in the Italian Grand Tour after having ridden the Tour de France five times and the Vuelta a España twice.

His best result in a Grand Tour so far was a third place in the 2014 Tour. Having finished 16th in 2015 and being unable to reach Paris in 2016, Pinot will be determined to impress in Italy.

The cyclist had already expressed his interest in the Giro in October. "I can say that I really want to participate in the Giro. There will be six real summit finishes and two real time trials. It'll soon become quite dramatic since the arrival on the Etna is planned for the fourth day," he said at the time.

Pinot, currently at a training camp in Spain with his team, hasn't taken part in any races since abandoning the Tour de France in July.
