TEAM LOTTO NL - JUMBO

George Bennett of New Zealand is suffering from infectious mononucleosis which may keep him from racing during the first part of the 2017 season. The LottoNL-Jumbo rider made the announcement through Twitter.

Bennett is undergoing tests and the full diagnosis will soon be known. "There is an examination taken place in the hospital, there will be some tests made to George's blood. Once more is known about his condition we will say more about it," confirmed a spokeswoman of the team to Dutch website WielerFlits.

The rider said on Twitter that he is taking some "precautionary rest after glandular fever (a.k.a. the kissing disease) a month or two ago."

Bennett finished in tenth place in the last Vuelta a España and will be waiting for the medical results to see how his season is going to develop after being forced to miss part of its start.
