RCS Sport announces wild card teams for Giro d'Italia, other WorldTour races

RCS Sport has announced the wild card invitations for four of its five UCI WorldTour races including the Giro d'Italia.

The organiser of the Stade Bianche, the Tirreno-Adriatico, Milano-San Remo and the Giro unveiled its choices in a press release issued on Wednesday.

Bardiani CSF, CCC Sprandi Polkowice, Gazprom-Rusvelo and Wilier Triestini have been picked as wild card teams for the 100th Giro d'Italia.

CCC, a Professional Continental team from Poland, reacted to the announcement with great excitement. "It's a big honor for us that we got invited to the 100th edition of this legendary race," the team said.

"The organizers of the event, RCS Sport, have recognized our team on a few other occasions in the past, granting us a wild card invitations to some other big races, such as Il Lombardia, Milan-Sanremo, Tirreno-Adriatico, Strade Bienche, Abu Dhabi Tour or Dubai Tour. We are extremely happy, that we didn't disappoint and that RCS Sport wants to see our orange colors in their races again and again."

Seven wild cards have been handed out for Milano-San Remo. Four of those went to Italian teams (Androni Giocattoli, Bardiani CSF, Nippo-Vini Fantini and Wilier Triestini). The other three went to Cofidis, Team Novo Nordisk Gazprom-Rusvelo.

Androni, Bardiani and Nippo have all received wild cards for the Strade Bianche and the Tirreno-Adriatico as well. For the latter race, the selection of teams will be completed by Novo Nordisk.

All four races will also feature the 18 UCI WorldTour teams.
