Caleb Ewan takes fourth victory in Tour Down Under

Australian sprinter Caleb Ewan took his fourth stage victory and secured the points jersey in the sixth and final stage of the Tour Down Under.

The final stage took place on a city circuit in Adelaide. At just 90 kilometers, the short course allowed for an explosive sprint with Ewan once again confirming that of those present in the finale, he currently has the better legs by far.

At the finish line, Ewan took yet another stage victory ahead of Slovak Peter Sagan of Bora-hansgrohe. The win was also more than enough for the Orica-Scott rider to secure the points jersey by a 12-point margin.

"I actually joked with my girlfriend at the start of the week that I would go for four stages but I didn't actually think it was going to be possible," Ewan said shortly after the stage.

"I kept backing up and feeling good every day, the team backed me 100% on the days that could have gone either way and I really have them to thank.

"I felt like the pressure got more as I won more. It's not usual that you get lucky enough to win all of the sprints in one race and I was just waiting for something bad to happen because there's a whole lot of luck that goes into winning a race."

It is the third time in the race's history that Australians win all of the six stages. Richie Porte, who won the remaining two, experienced no difficulty defending his overall lead on the final day.
