Tim Wellens takes solo victory in Challenge Mallorca

Belgian cyclist Tim Wellens of Lotto-Soudal has won the second race of the Challenge Mallorca, finishing solo in the Trofeo Serra de Tramuntana.

The 25-year-old finished more than a minute ahead of his teammate Louis Vervaeke to secure Lotto-Soudal's second consecutive win in this series of races following Andre Greipel's sprint victory on Thursday.

By doing so, Wellens once again confirms his abilities in wet weather after having impressed in the rain before by finishing first in last year's extremely rainy Tour de Pologne.

The podium was completed by Spaniard Vicente Garcia de Mateos of Louletano-Hospital de Loule.

The Challenge Mallorca continues with the Trofeo Andratx-Mirador des Colomer on Saturday. The route of this event has undergone a late adjustment due to the closure of one of the roads. The new route is 158.7 kilometers long and leads the riders from Andratx to Pollenca in the north of the island.
