Nairo Quintana of Movistar Team is the new leader of the Volta a la Comunidad Valenciana after winning the queen stage in impressive fashion.
The Colombian attacked right at the foot of the final climb of the day, up the extremely steep Mas de la Costa.
At the finish, Quintana's lead over his nearest chaser Merhawi Kudus of Dimension Data had grown to 40 seconds and Amaro Antunes of W52/Porto came in third at 44 seconds from the winner.
Defending champion Wout Poels delivered a convincing performance as well as the Sky rider finished in fourth place at 47 seconds from Quintana.
Race leader Greg Van Avermaet stood no chance against the South American's climbing capacity. The Belgian finished at more than four minutes and as such lost his yellow jersey.
Quintana, who also celebrates his birthday today, will likely secure the overall victory of the race as the fifth and final stage is mostly flat and offers little opportunity for others to make a difference.
