ETOILE DE BESSèGES

Arnaud Demare of FDJ has secured his second stage victory in the Etoile de Besseges. The Frenchman defeated Alexander Kristoff and Christophe Laporte in the final sprint of stage 4.

The stage led the riders from Chusclan to Laudun with a total distance of 152.9 kilometers.

The breakaway of the day was formed by Jelle Wallays (Lotto Soudal), Nico Denz (AG2R La Mondiale), Wesley Kreder (Wanty-Groupe Gobert), Preben Van Hecke (Sport Vlaanderen-Baloise), Angel Madrazo (Delko Marseille Provence KTM), Fabricio Ferrari (Caja Rural-Seguros RGA) and Kevyn Ista (WB Veranclassic Aqua Protect).

The seven built a maximum lead of more than three minutes but the peloton always remained in charge and caught the leaders at about two kilometers from the finish.

In the sprint, Demare once again proved to have the better legs and crossed the line ahead of Katusha-Alpecin's Kristoff and Cofidis' Laporte.

With one stage to go, Lilian Calmejane of Direct Energie remains in first place in the general classification. On the final day, the Frenchman will defend a 17-second lead over Katusha's Mads Wurtz Schmidt.
