It was a special day for the Movistar rider not only because he showed a great climbing performance, but also because it was his 27th birthday. "It is a very special victory on the day of my birthday. A success that gives me a lot of tranquility and shows us that we have done a great job in the winter," said the rider at the end of the stage.
Quintana takes this performance as a sign that he and the team are heading in the right way for the season. "The plan of the day went perfect. We are still seeing how my body is doing at this time of the season and today, happily, it responded.
"Like every day of this Vuelta, the team covered me very well and I could arrive to the ascent in a good shape. I tried from the low part and I saw it was going well and I kept going. I was fine in the toughest ramps and what we saw today is a good sign to continue with this training plan in the next weeks," he added.
