Esteban Chaves to ride Tour de France, Vuelta a España remains possible

Colombian Esteban Chaves is set to ride the Tour de France in 2017. Orica-Scott confirmed that it is time for him to get to know the French Grand Tour.

Sports director Neil Stephens discussed the plans for the Colombian with the magazine Road and Mud. "I think it is time for him to be in the Tour de France. It is too soon to say that he has to win it, but I think he has to go to know the race," he said.

The director believes that Chaves always keeps up with the challenges that are set for him and ends up doing more than what is asked. "He always accepts every challenge that we put for him and a bit more. So if we tell him to go and know the Tour, he will go and have a good Tour. And who knows what it is to do well? Maybe he would even finish in the top ten or better," he commented.

Stephens also said that the team is evaluating the possibility of Chaves also doing the Vuelta a España. "We are asking him to go and get to know the Tour, then we will see what happens. Right now Chaves is very committed and we are looking into the idea of doing Tour and Vuelta," he added.
