Team Sky cyclist Owain Doull has increased the pressure on world governing body UCI to take action after having Marcel Kittel's disc break slide through his shoe in an Abu Dhabi Tour crash.

Kittel and Doull crashed at the banner for the last kilometer of the first stage. The QuickStep rider's disc break then reportedly cut the shoe of Doull, who later took to Twitter to complain about the incident and the potential safety hazard disc breaks may pose.

"Fortunately for me the disk brake went through my shoe and not my leg. Disk cut straight through my shoe into my foot," the Olympic track champion tweeted.

He then added a second tweet, in which he told the UCI to "sort it out".

Doull immediately received support from several riders, including Sky teammate Wout Poels. "Disc brakes: UCI calls on CPA to 'respect the democratic process' @UCI_cycling Think you forgot to ask the riders what to think about it?" the Dutchman wrote.

Movistar's Alex Dowsett added: "Doull's shoe, thankfully not a body part. And bear in mind there was just ONE bike with disc brakes in that crash, imagine a whole peloton?!"
