Caleb Ewan wins last stage in Abu Dhabi Tour, overall for Rui Costa

The last stage of the Abu Dhabi Tour has been won by Australian Caleb Ewan of Orica-Scott. Rui Costa of UAE Team Emirates secured the overall victory.

The fourth and final stage took place on the Yas Marina Formula 1 circuit, as has become tradition in recent years. The weather didn't follow tradition however as the circumstances were particularly wet on what turned out to be one of the few rainy days the region sees each year.

Rafa Valls (Lotto-Soudal), Alex Dowsett and Jorge Arcas (Movistar), Patrick Konrad (Bora-hansgrohe), Kirill Sveshnikov (Gazprom-Rusvelo) and Dylan Teuns (BMC) formed the breakaway of the day.

One after the other was dropped from the front group as it desperately tried to stay ahead of the peloton. Teuns and Dowsett were the last men standing in the breakaway but they too were reeled in at 30 kilometers from the line.

No attacks were attempted in the remainder of the stage as the sprinters' teams maintained a high enough pace to avoid surprises.

In the final sprint, Ewan was perfectly launched by his teammates and finished it off ahead of Dimension Data's Mark Cavendish and Lotto-Soudal's Andre Greipel.

UAE Team Emirates' Rui Costa finished safely in the pack and as such confirmed his overall victory ahead of Ilnur Zakarin of Katusha-Alpecin and Tom Dumoulin of Team Sunweb.
