WOUT POELS
TEAM SKY

Wout Poels believes that he and Chris Froome do not have to ride many races together in order to deliver the best possible teamwork at the Tour de France.

The Team Sky rider asked his managers to be handed a different schedule this year, which would allow him to ride for his own success rather than focus on Froome's chances in the build-up to the Tour.

"Chris and I know each other well enough by now to deliver the best possible teamwork in the Tour," the Dutchman told the Telegraaf newspaper in his home country.

"Although I would have liked to ride the Giro d'Italia for the general classification, I understand that this wouldn't be a good idea considering the Tour. It's a shame but fortunately I get to lead the team at many other races. After my victory at Liege-Bastogne-Liege last year, I hope to battle for wins in classics again."

"Chris is happy for me to go for my own success. Of course he also knows that when I do well in the spring, I go into the Tour with a better feeling. And to be fair, it is easier for me to work as a domestique after doing well in the spring."
