Alejandro Valverde to skip Paris-Nice

Alejandro Valverde won't start in Paris-Nice. The Movistar rider is suffering from fever and hasn't recovered in time to take part in the French race.

The rider was set to be the leader of the Spanish team at the 75th edition of Paris-Nice. Valverde was diagnosed with a virus that has caused fever, reason for the doctors to advice against him against riding at the moment.

This was set to be the return of the rider after five years of absence from the race. The last time he took part, he got a stage victory and the third position in the overall classification. Valverde also wanted to get another triumph in a season in which he has already won the Vuelta a Murcia and the Ruta del Sol.

Victor de la Parte will replace the rider and will join a team composed by Winner Anacona, Jesus and Jose Herrada, Gorka Izaguirre, Marc Soler and Rory Sutherland.

Movistar has also announced that Daniele Bennati will not take part in the Strade Bianche because he is sick as well. The rider will be replaced by Jose Joaquin Rojas, who returns to racing after the fractures that he suffered to his leg during the last Vuelta a España.
