Broken collarbone keeps Jan Bakelants out of Basque Country

Jan Bakelants has broken his collarbone. The rider of AG2R-La Mondiale suffered the injury during a training ride in Belgium.

The rider was training in his home country when he suffered a fall that resulted in a fractured collarbone. Bakelants had surgery during the day and it is still uncertain when he will be ready to return to competition.

The Belgian was set to be part of the team's selection for the upcoming Tour of the Basque Country and will be replaced by Julien Berard.

Joining Berard in the Spanish race are Romain Bardet, Hubert Dupont, Alexis Vuillermoz, Quentin Jauregui, Matteo Montaguti, Clement Chevrier and Mikael Cherel.
