Rohan Dennis wins prologue and leads Tour de Suisse

Rohan Dennis (BMC) has won the first stage of the Tour de Suisse. The Australian completed the route of the prologue faster than his teammate Stefan Küng and Matthias Brandle.

The first stage of the Swiss race was a prologue of six kilometers in the municipality of Cham. The Individual Time Trial took place on a fast and flat course where in the past victories were claimed by riders like Fabian Cancellara.

Early on the day, Irishman Ryan Mullen (Cannondale-Drapac) got the best time by completing the course in 6 minutes and 37 seconds. The rider got to wait in the hot seat for hours and saw other contenders failing to beat his time until it was the turn of Rohan Dennis (BMC).

The Australian TT champion finished the prologue in 6 minutes and 24 seconds, being 11 seconds faster than the Irishman. Giro d'Italia winner Tom Dumoulin (Sunweb) started shortly after and the Dutchman was faster than Mullen but nine seconds slower than Dennis.

Matthias Brandle (Trek-Segafredo) and Michael Matthews (Sunweb) finished with the same time as Dumoulin and positioned themselves in third and fourth place at the end of the day.

One of the last riders to start, Swiss Stefan Küng (BMC), got the second position of the stage after completing the course at 8 seconds from Dennis.

With this stage victory the Australian also gets the leader's jersey.
