AG2R-La Mondiale's Romain Bardet has decided not to take part in the French National Championships. The road race will be in Saint-Omer on June 25th.

The French rider and his team have decided that this year he won't be in the race for two main reasons. "The circuit of Saint Omer does not suit Romain’s strengths," said Vincent Lavenu, general manager of the team.

"Coming less than a week before the start of the Tour de France, it is better not to take part this year," he added.

Even though it is still in his career objectives to win this race, Bardet doesn't think 2017 is a good year to do so. "The French National Championship is a very important race in the season, and the title is one I would love to win still in my career," commented the rider.

"This season, though, I prefer not to participate, for practical sporting reasons. And in any case, I know that AG2R-La Mondiale will have a strong and motivated squad in Saint-Omer," the Frenchman affirmed.
