Miguel Angel Lopez out of Tour de Suisse with minor injuries

Astana's Miguel Angel Lopez crashed at the fifth stage of the Tour de Suisse, having to withdraw from the race.

The Colombian was back to defend his title after breaking his tibia before the start of the season. A day after a good stage in which he showed strength on the climbs, Lopez suffered a heavy crash during the descent of the first climb to the Simplonpass.

The rider was immediately taken to the hospital of Domodossola. "Fortunately, Lopez avoided major injuries: he got a small fracture of the right thumb, two stitches and a few abrasions on the right side," said Astana in a press release.

Although Colombian media reported that the rider lost some teeth as result of the crash, this has been unconfirmed by his agents.
