Luka Mezgec wins stage and leads GC at Tour of Slovenia

Orica-Scott's Luka Mezgec has won the second stage of the Tour of Slovenia. The local rider had already finished third at the first stage and also tops the General Classification standings.

The stage was 169.9 kilometers long and took place on a circuit departing and arriving in the city of Ljubljana.

Early on the day an escape group of seven riders was formed and got an advantage of more than five minutes. The group was caught at 15 kilometers from the end, by a peloton pulled by teams with strong sprinters.

During the last 10 kilometers, Orica-Scott set a pace to favor Mezgec, who got a very favorable positioning at the end and managed to win the bunch sprint. Behind him Roberto Ferrari (UAE-Team Emirates) and Mark Renshaw (Dimension Data) crossed the finish line in second and third position.

The Slovenian also got the leader's jersey.
