Rafal Majka of Bora-hansgrohe has won the third stage of the Tour of Slovenia and takes the lead in the overall classification.

The third of four stages began in the city of Celje and finished 167.7 kilometers later in Rogla. The stage included three categorized climbs, most importantly the 1st-category ascent to the finish.

A front group of six was formed early on but failed to gain much time on the peloton. The composition of the group changed a few times as some got dropped while others bridged the gap to the front, but all escapees were eventually caught before the final climb.

Majka attacked from the group of favorites with ten kilometers to go and was followed only by Jack Haig of Orica-Scott and Bahrain-Merida's Giovanni Visconti. The Italian was dropped a few times but managed to limit the damage and kept finding his way back to the front.

After having fought his way back once more, Visconti even had enough energy left to launch the final sprint. Majka reacted well however to surpass his rival and take both the stage victory and the leader's jersey. The Polish rider leads Visconti by eight seconds in the overall standings and Haig follows in third place at another ten seconds.
