This is the first year as a professional for Richard Carapaz and he has already got a second place in the Route du Sud. The rider of Movistar is pleased with the season so far and is determined to keep his career going this way.

Carapaz has also finished fourth in the Youth classification of the 2017 Tour de Romandie and 10th in the same classification of the Criterium du Dauphine, both great achievements for a neo-pro. "I'm very proud of my first half of the year because I could exploit all my potential with my hard work and I'm learning little by little with the experience of all of my teammates and directors.

"I'm a neo-professional and I'm like a sponge, absorbing all the positives to put it in practice, and so far it is working. On Tuesday, I travel to Ecuador for almost a month to then face the last part of the year. I go to my country very happy knowing that I still have a lot ahead of me but that the future looks good considering what I have been doing in this first year," he commented.

The rider is also pleased with his second place at the Route du Sud, finishing at only seven seconds from the leader. "I'm very satisfied, it has been a very eventful race every day and I think I have been where I had to be. I am happy with the second place and above all with the help of all the team, who have been in front every day and have been supporting me," Carapaz said.
