Oliver Naesen of AG2R La Mondiale is the new Belgian national champion after beating Sep Vanmarcke in the final sprint.

The extremely flat course was 238 kilometers long divided into 14 local laps in the city of Antwerpen. The only possible challenges were two short stretches of cobblestones.

With five kilometers to go, a group of five had an advantage of just over half a minute over the first chase group. The lead group connsisted of Sep Vanmarcke, Oliver Naesen, Jens Keukeleire, Jasper Stuyven and neo-pro Nathan van Hooydonck.

An attack by Vanmarcke with a little more than a kilometer initially proved too much for Van Hooydonck but the youngster fought back and even went on to lead the group for a short moment.

The BMC rider played no role in the final sprint however. Vanmarcke initiated but it was Naesen to take the victory after an impressive jump in the last meter. Vanmarcke took Silver and Bronze went to Stuyven.

Naesen will get a chance to display his new jersey at the upcoming Tour de France.
