JAKOB FUGLSANG
ASTANA PRO TEAM

Danish rider Jakob Fuglsang has extended his contract with Astana Pro Team for another two years, the Kazakh formation announced.

Fuglsang joined the team in 2013 and will as such add a sixth and a seventh season to his time at Astana.

"Jakob is one of the key riders at Astana Pro Team," said general manager Alexander Vinokourov. "In five years, he proved himself as a strong Grand Tour rider. He was the one, who could support the leader in the crucial moments of the race, and now he is showing his qualities as a team’s leader too.

"His Critérium du Dauphiné win brought a lot of motivation to the team and after it we start the Tour de France with ambitions and hopes. I am really happy to have Jakob at Astana Pro Team for the next two years."

The Scandinavian himself is happy to have renewed his contract at the team he considers family.

"I've spent already five years here and they have been some really good years. I had the possibility to develop with Astana and hope to continue to do so in the future. After five years I feel like in a family here. I feel really good in the team, so in the end it was not difficult at all to decide to remain here for a few seasons more," the 32-year-old said.

The recent overall victory and two stage wins in the Dauphiné were Fuglsang's first individual wins since joining Astana. At the Tour de France, he will take on an assisting role for team leader Fabio Aru.
