Richie Porte was one of the riders involved in the day's big crash but he came out practically unscathed.

The crash happened at 30 kilometres from the finish line and caused a break in the peloton which affected many riders. "I came out of that okay, there was a few guys there that fell harder. I fortunately landed on top of them," said Porte at the end of the stage.

The weather conditions caused a dangerous situation for the riders. "It was a stressful day. The first stage in the Tour and there was the rain and then it dries up and then it rains again. So we got our first crash out of the way and we get on with it."

Even though the rider suffered a hit in the fall, he expects the next day to be better. "Hopefully the knee is okay cause I got a little bit of a bang there, but I'm looking forward to tomorrow," he concluded.
