Tour de France: Did Peter Sagan also cause the first crash?

World Champion Peter Sagan was expelled from the Tour de France for causing a crash involving Mark Cavendish, but did he also cause the earlier of the two major crashes?

In helicopter images of the first crash, which held up most riders and had several - including race leader Geraint Thomas - on the ground, Sagan can be seen trying to get to the front when he clashes with an FDJ rider who in turn falls, leading to the mass crash.

The eventual winner Arnaud Demare only just managed to avoid falling himself.

The question is whether Sagan himself was to cause for the crash, or did the Slovak of Bora-hansgrohe get stuck in between two other riders.

A video of the moment of the first crash can be found here. What is your opinion?
