BMC Racing Team leader Richie Porte was happy to get the sixth stage of the Tour de France out of the way without experiencing any trouble.

The sixth stage felt particularly long as little happened throughout the day, which could have led to a lack of focus among those in the peloton.

"Today was such a long day," the Australian said right after the finish. "probably could have had the same result with half the distance. It's a nice one to get done. Those days, there's nothing to gain but so much to lose.

"It was quite a frantic finish and the guys were once again absolutely incredible."

Porte expects more of the same in the seventh stage on Friday, which is once again expected to finish in a mass sprint.

"I guess so yeah," he said. "Another long day. The aim of that is to sap the energy a bit but they sure are long days."
