Edvald Boasson Hagen missed out on the victory of the seventh stage of the Tour de France but says that the second place gives him confidence for the remainder of the race.

Boasson Hagen and Kittel crossed the line at practically the same moment but a study by the jury pointed out that the German had done so just a little bit earlier. According to Tissot, the time difference between the two was no more than 0.0003 seconds, which equals 6 millimeters.

"The team did so well today" the Norwegian said. "They took me all the way to the line with a perfect leadout. It's a pity I couldn’t finish it off. However, I'm happy with this second place even though I would have liked to take the win.

"I'm not a pure sprinter, so to be able to be up there on these flat stages gives me a lot of confidence for the remaining part of the Tour," he concluded.

Had he won Friday's stage, it would have been the third stage win in the Tour de France for the Scandinavian, after having won two stages in the 2011 edition.
