Nairo Quintana (Movistar) had a difficult day in the Tour de France after getting dropped from the group of favorites and eventually dropping to eighth place in the General Classification at 2'13" from Chris Froome (Sky).

At the end of the ninth stage, the Colombian explained what kind of stage it was for him. "It was a day with a lot of crashes and very difficult. Today we could have given away even more time, because my strength is starting to get very low.

"It is always very difficult when you make a bet like the one we made this year, and we missed some strength today. I fought as much as I could, and we will continue riding in the Tour to see how the feelings continue," he added.

Quintana himself was not completely safe from the dangerous conditions either. "Thankfully I could avoid a very complicated crash. I don't even know how I avoided it and I'm happy because of that. It could have been a worse day as I could have ended up going home. But apart from that, we will keep riding even if the strength is not the best."

Even though his chances to get the overall victory seem to be less now, Quintana thinks that there is still a lot of racing to be done. "There are still more stages to go, and we have to see how the legs keep feeling. I don't worry because we are human beings and sometimes you have better days than others and you have to know how to get through the difficult ones. It's not easy, but we have done what we could," the rider concluded.
