Ilnur Zakarin has extended his contract with team Katusha-Alpecin. The Russian is glad to continue at the squad he has been in since 2015.

The rider has signed for more two years with the WorldTour formation. "I am looking forward to two more years with Team Katusha-Alpecin," he said. "Since I became part of the team, I have steadily improved, and I hope to continue to do so in the future. I hope to make myself happy, as well as all the people who work for the team."

The 27-year-old is the current Time Trial champion of Russia and has achieved many big results with the team like a 5th place in the General Classification of the 2017 Giro d'Italia, one stage victory in the 2016 Tour de France and the overall win at the 2015 Tour de Romandie.

"We are happy to continue working with Ilnur," commented general manager José Azevedo. "He has shown in this year's Giro d'Italia and many other times that he is one of the most active and best climbers in the world. If he continues to work hard, I am sure he will one day be high up on a podium of a Grand Tour. We will give him the best support possible from the team."

Zakarin is set to start at the 2017 Vuelta a España, which starts in mid-August.
