Movistar team and Nairo Quintana have expressed disagreement with the route of the Tour de France, particularly because of the amount of descents.

During the press conference of the first rest day, team director Eusebio Unzue talked about his concerns related to the descents. "Now the Tour is more dangerous than before. The descents that we faced yesterday with a calm race, you can do them any other time. But in a Tour, during the most difficult stage, where so many things can happen, the cyclists have to think more on the descents than on the climbs," he said.

The team's director also criticised the broadcasting of entire stages, because he believes that it makes the riders want to show off. "That's why seven or eight 'cracks' are not in the race any more. People that until yesterday were stars have disappeared. (Mark) Cavendish, (Richie) Porte, (Geraint) Thomas, Alejandro (Valverde), Ion Izagirre... it is because of that atmosphere."

Team star Nairo Quintana agrees with the assessment that the Tour de France organisation cares more about the show than about riders' safety. "Those falls are a message to the organisation, so they think about the cyclists. They want a show, more than thinking about the lives of the riders. It is not only about hurting yourself, people may actually die. Something worse can happen because of this," he commented.
