Jakob Fuglsang to start in stage 12 despite suffering two small fractures

Astana Pro Team rider Jakob Fuglsang will start in the 12th stage of the Tour de France despite having suffered two small fractures in Wednesday's stage.

This was confirmed by the Kazakh WorldTour formation. In a statement on its official website, the team explains that Fuglsang was "diagnosed with two very small fractures: in the left scaphoid and in the head of the radius of the left elbow", but adds that the Danish rider will still start on Thursday.

Fuglsang and his teammate Dario Cataldo both crashed shortly after passing the feeding zone. For Cataldo, the consequences of the crash were too serious to continue.

"Dario Cataldo was diagnosed with a small fracture in the scaphoid bone of the left hand and a lot of contusions and abrasions of the left side of the body. His left wrist was fixed for a few weeks," Astana confirmed.

Cataldo is the first Astana rider to abandon this Tour de France. Apart from Fuglsang, the team currently still consists of Fabio Aru, Andriy Grivko, Dmitriy Gruzdev, Bakhtiyar Kozhatayev, Alexey Lutsenko, Michael Valgren Andersen and Andrey Zeits.
