Rigoberto Uran, George Bennett and Serge Pauwels have been handed 20-second time penalties after accepting bottles in the last 20 kilometers of stage 12 of the Tour de France.

The three all accepted bottles at the top of the Peyresourde climb, with just about six kilometers left to go on the day.

The measure particularly hurts Uran (Cannondale-Drapac) and Bennett (LottoNL-Jumbo). The Colombian remains in fourth place in the General Classification but now at 55 seconds from Fabio Aru rather than 35 seconds. George Bennett is currently ninth in the standings at 4'24".

The penalties are based on UCI rule 2.3.027, which specifies that "Feeding is prohibited on climbs, descents and during the first 50 and last 20 km".
