Fabio Aru after losing Yellow Jersey: Not everything is lost

Fabio Aru of Astana Pro Team lost the Yellow Jersey of the Tour de France after finishing the 14th stage 25 seconds behind Chris Froome, leaving the Team Sky rider back in the lead.

Aru's positioning ahead of the final climb was not ideal. The Italian found himself too far to the back and had no way of avoid a time loss once the front of the group accelerated.

"I was a bit too far to the back and allowed a gap to be created in the group before the last kilometer," Aru told Italian broadcaster RAI.

"I made an effort to come back but there was nothing I could do when they accelerated. That is racing. Today it has happened to me and another time it can happen to someone else.

"I prefer to keep the shirt," he continued. "But not everything is lost."

"Tomorrow there will be another hard stage and we'll see. Nineteen seconds isn't little but it isn't so much either. Tomorrow's stage will be quite demanding. I think we will recover the forces ahead of the rest day."
