Spanish rider Haimar Zubeldia is set to retire from professional cyclism after this year's Clasica San Sebastian, which will take place on July 29th.
The 40-year-old announced his decision on the second rest day of the Tour de France, for which he was originally not selected but was called as a reserve following the positive doping test of Andre Cardoso.
Zubeldia joined the professional peloton at Euskaltel-Euskadi in 1998 and went on to spend 11 seasons as the Basque team. He later went on to represent Astana, Team RadioShack and his current team, Trek-Segafredo.
The Basque finished fifth in the 2003 Tour de France and improved from this result by taking fourth place in the 2007 edition. In total, he earned five top-ten spots in the Tour and one in the Vuelta a España.
Zubeldia did not win many races individually but did take overall victories at the Euskal Bizikleta in 2000 and the Tour de l'Ain in 2010.
