Slovenian rider Simon Spilak has added two more years to his contract with Katusha-Alpecin. The Tour de Suisse champion is now set to stay until the end of 2019.

Spilak, 31, joined the team from Lampre in 2011 and won the Tour de Suisse both in 2015 and 2017. The other big win on the rider's palmares is the Tour de Romandie of 2010.

"When you look at the palmares of Simon, he definitely belongs in the group of the best riders in the world for one-week stage races," said Katusha-Alpecin's General Manager Jose Azevedo. "His focus will continue to be on this kind of race, and we hope he can achieve more victories in the future for the team."

Spilak is pleased to add another two years to his stay at the team, which since this years operates with a Swiss license.

I’m very happy to re-sign with Team Katusha-Alpecin," he said. "I’m feeling very well here and I like how the team works. Furthermore, the staff, managers and teammates are just great and we function as a big family. Therefore, I’m looking forward to the next two years and the achievements to come for me personally and especially for the team"
