John Degenkolb: Trek-Segafredo has lodged a protest for Michael Matthews' sprint

Trek-Segafredo has filed a protest for the irregular sprint of Team Sunweb's Michael Matthews at the end of the 16th stage on Tuesday.

Update: Contrary to reports in German media, Trek-Segafredo told CyclingPub that it has not lodged a protest and that a report will be out shortly. We will await the comments.

Original article:

Matthews swerved in the final meters, much to the dismay of German John Degenkolb who ended up in third place.

"We have lodged a protest," said John Degenkolb after the stage. "Michael Matthews has definitely left his line, went from the left to the right side closed the gap for me even though he did see me.

"I had a higher speed and had to slow down accordingly, so I couldnt get the victory," he explained.

The protest would not benefit Degekolb and Trek-Segafredo too much if successful, as the stage win would then go to the day's runner-up Edvald Boasson Hagen of Dimension Data.
