Bauke Mollema gives Clasica San Sebastian back number to Haimar Zubeldia

Bauke Mollema (Trek-Segafredo) has decided to give his number for the Clasica San Sebastian to teammate Haimar Zubeldia.

The Dutchman would be getting number "1" in the race because he is the defending champion. But the rider decided to give this number to Zubeldia on the day he has chosen to be the last one of his career as a professional cyclist.

The announcement was made during the presentation of the race, which will take place on the 29th of July. The mayor of the city of San Sebastian Eneko Goia, had some words for the rider: "Haimar has been a great professional on the bike and has never been involved in any trouble. He has been a discreet and exemplary sportsman."

Zubeldia announced his retirement during the rest day of the Tour de France, in which he is taking part as a replacement for Andre Cardoso after the Portuguese rider was excluded due to a positive doping test. The 40-year-old rider retires after 19 years as a professional.
